Kerala Disaster Rescue and Relief 2018


In the month of august; heavy rainfalls and subsequent flooding affected entire Kerala. Most parts of the state were under red alert since more than 30 dams were opened since their resirvoirs got filled due to excessive rains in the catchment areas. This combined with the rain caused flooding of rivers and central Kerala was heavily affected by the flood. Sevakiran team responded to the hour of crisis in a timely manner and set the rescue team ready on 14th of august 2018. rescue started the same day despite non-stop rains and the first relief camp started at Kothamangalam followed by the second camp at Neriyamangalam on 15th of August. Kothamangalam was made the base camp and rescue and relief teams started operating from the centre. 

Relief operations started with the  the camps and extended through meal and water distributions, first aid supplies, supply of materials, groceries and dress kits, packed food and hygiene items. as flood subsided and families started to move back to their habitats; cleaning and sanitation started in the affected areas and volunteers were forwarded to the affected areas with all necessary equipments and materials. 

A series of medical camps and psycho-social support camps are being conducted in the affected places now. Since the total damage and collateral damages can impact the lives of the affected; we are extending our services with all opssible measures.
